Supporting adoption in the Budapest Zoo
Through the supporting adoption of our animals and plants You may also contribute to the subsidizing of one of the oldest and one of the most beautiful scheduled zoo-monuments of the world, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. Being an active participant in the international breeding program for rescuing endangered species, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is a prominent site for educating the public about sustainable development, as well as is the most visited cultural sight in Hungary.
Please, find below the messages of Mr. István Palugyai, the President of the Foundation for the Budapest Zoo and of Mr. Zsolt Sebestyén, the Secretary of the Foundation:
Dear Supporting Adopter,
 The supporting adoption of the creatures living in the Zoo, established as the first zoo in Hungary, is a magnificent opportunity for those who intend to contribute directly to the maintenance, keeping, healing, and preservation of our animals.
Did you know, that the forage and food for animals cost over HUF 400,000 (approx. $2450,00 or €1670.00) a day?
Additionally, our foundation is a remarkable supporter of the renovation and modernisation of artificial habitats (animal houses, outdoor enclosures).
 Whether you decide upon your own accord to do for the rescuing of endangered animal species kept in zoos, or you receive the supporting adoption as a gift from somebody, you will surely have a close relationship with the zoo. Adopting an animal is a very thoughtful present. The possibilities are endless. It is a perfect surprise for birthdays, different anniversaries, Easter, Christmas or other occassions. The animal or plant that you choose to adopt in a supporting manner will, of course, remain in the Zoo. The amount of support for one year is minimum HUF 5,000.00, for which, as an acknowledgement, our foundation will present the honoured Adopter with a Certificate, a profile on the life of the adopted animal and the name of the Adopter will be displayed for one year on the Adopters’ Board and on our web site as well. Above HUF 5,000.00 we accept with thanks whatever account you may offer. In case a sum of HUF 300,000.00 or above is offered the supporter's name will be shown at the run of the adopted animal, but only with the supporter's approval. Furthermore the Supporting Adopters are invited two times a year to the Adopters’ Meeting. At this event fostering adopters will have the opportunity to meet the caretaker of the adopted animal, to gather first hand information concerning the life and condition of the adopted animal or plant.
 We are pleased that the number of supporting adopters is increasing year by year, and more and more people have chosen this form of subsidizing so far. With our whole heart we hope that soon we can greet You among the adopters. On behalf of the adopted animals and plants we would like to express our thanks for Your kind support!
You may adopt an animal or plant personally in our office at the Zoo every day from 9.00 to 17.00
